General Outlook:
Radar indicates that scattered light showers continue to move through the area. These showers are associated with the low pressure that is currently located southwest of Vancouver Island. Over the next 24 hours this low will move northward. This will cause the pressure to fall for a short period of time this afternoon. Additionally, winds within the straight will likely increase to 10-15 kts with gust near 20 kts during the late afternoon and early evening. Winds will mainly be from the east-southeast throughout the day. This evening the winds will likely shift and come from the southwest. The Halibut Bank bouy, which is north of Howe Sound, has been experiencing 10 kt winds from the east-southeast, 1 foot waves, rising pressure and temperatures in the upper 40s for the last few hours. Forecast Canada is predicting cloudy conditions with temperatures near 53F (12C) and a 30% chance of showers. After the morning showers pass through, I expect the day will be dry. However, showers may develop overnight. In the long term, this weekend looks like it will be nice with high pressure entering the region. The next low pressure system will likely arrive on Monday.
Winds:
0 hour (08 PDT) 5-10 kt winds from the east-southeast with gusts up to 15 kts
6 hour (14 PDT) 5-10 kt winds from the east-southeast with the pressure beginning to slowly fall
12 hour (20 PDT) 10-15kt winds from the southwest with gusts between 15-20 kts
