Day - Rain 2

Wednesday, September 10 Forecast

The current visible satellite images show that the cold front that passed through the region last evening has now drifted south and is now located over Iowa and Wisconsin. The current flow conditions is favoring cold advection from the north which should keep today’s temperatures from rising more than what they currently are (mid 40s and lower 50s). Current winds are ranging from 15-20 mph with gusts reaching up to 35 mph.

Short term forecast:
Cloudiness should clear out for the remainder of the day and precipitation should taper off. An upper-level shortwave trough should pass over the region tonight, increasing mid- to upper-level cloudiness, keeping the low temperatures well above freezing. Do notice that there is a chance for the clouds to break before this, which might lead to cooler temperatures than expected. After tonight, the flow should become predominantly zonal on Thursday and conditions should be mostly clear. Temperatures are forecasted to increase, but not exceed 60°F in the short term. On Friday, an upper-level shortwave trough should lead to increase moisture over the forecast area and increased probability of precipitation. Winds are expected to decrease to ~10 mph for the remainder of the week, but will continue to be predominantly northerly.

Long term forecast:
Conditions are expected to be mostly clear on Saturday, with temperatures in the mid to upper 50s. A trough will be passing through on Sunday, which will lead to an increase in the probability of precipitation. Winds are expected to remain near 10 mph over the period, but slightly shifting to northwesterly.
