Warmer weather coming!

With a frost advisory over all of Minnesota, it’ll be another cold night. But warm weather and sun is approaching on Saturday. There’s also a high chance for seeing auroras tonight and tomorrow night.

Current Conditions:
Conditions this fine Friday afternoon in central Minnesota are mostly cloudy with highs in the low 50s. Winds are about 5mph from NW.

Short term forecast: One more chilly night awaits you tonight with another frost advisory and lows in the low 30s. Tomorrow will be warmer with a high around 60 and low near 40 on Saturday night. A center of high pressure over Kansas/Missouri will induce 10 mph winds from the south on Saturday. There is a chance of slightly higher (15 mph) winds Saturday afternoon. Warmer and partly sunny conditions will prevail over the weekend. A weak trough will pass through Sunday afternoon bringing a chance of light rain.

Long term forecast:
After the weak front/trough pulls through on Sunday, high pressure will build back in and provide a sunny Monday with highs in the low 60s. This fair weather should persist through Thursday.

Aurora forecast:
40% chance of a major radio blackout tomorrow! There’s currently a G2 (moderate) geomagnetic storm! Current Kp index is around 5 and predicted to increase to 6, which indicates high potential for seeing the aurora in the midlatitudes tonight — one website estimates a >30% chance of seeing the aurora tonight in the midlatitudes. The second coronal mass ejection should arrive tomorrow, making Saturday night also a good night for potential aurora in the midlatitudes.
