Day - Scattered Thunder

Potential for Severe Weather Tonight

Warm and humid today with potential severe storms with large hail and strong winds tonight. Starting Thursday clear, cooler and less humid conditions will prevail until next week.

Current Conditions:
This morning is a lovely humid midwest day with dewpoints near 60deg and temperatures near 70deg. The winds were quite light overnight but are starting to increase slight to 5 mph. Clear, sunny skies. There are storms to your south along a line from the Twin Cities westward to South Dakota associated with a shortwave trough.

Short Term forecast:
The biggest concern right now is the chance of severe weather this afternoon and overnight. The storms to your south will likely propagate northward and potentially arrive between 5pm and 11 pm. The Storm Prediction Center identifies your largest potential threats as large hail and strong winds. If you get under one of the storms you could get up to 1/3 of an inch of rain. Showers could linger into Thursday. However, the models appear to be forecasting heavy rain to your south and east. Hopefully you will get lucky. Highs for today will be in the mid70s with dewpoints muggy at 60deg. Winds will remain relatively calm, near 5 mph with partly cloud skies.

Long Term Forecast:
After the shortwave moves through tonight and early tomorrow high pressure will start to dominate. This will bring you cooler and less humid weather. Skies should remain clear and winds light. The one downside of clear skies, is cool nights. The next chance for rain will be early next week, Monday or Tuesday.
