Good Morning,
It looks like today is going to be a rough day. However, conditions may slightly improve overnight, before the next system arrives on Tuesday. Currently, you have a gale warning issued for your region. The warning issued by forecast Canada says that 34 to 47 knot winds are possible. Their marine forecast indicates that winds are currently from the north at 10-20 knots. These winds will increase to 20-30 knots and come from the northeast by this afternoon. Waves will be 1-2 meters. Overnight, waves will diminish to 1 meter and winds will diminish to 10 knots. The next frontal system will arrive Tuesday afternoon as winds from the south increase to 10-20 knots. By Tuesday evening they are forecast south winds at 35 knots.
Current Conditions:
There is currently a stationary front to your south, which is causing your morning clouds and showers to your south. An upper level ridge is beginning to exit the Pacific Northwest. The South Brooks Buoy has had winds between 10-15 kts from the northwest for the last few hours. Waves have been about 4 ft and the pressure is slightly increasing.
Short term forecast: (next 24 hours)
Winds will remain from the north-northwest and increase throughout the day. By this evening winds could be up to 25 kts with gusts up to 35 kts. However, the winds will then decrease overnight and Tuesday. Waves should decrease throughout the day.
Long term forecast: (Tuesday and Wednesday)
After a short break overnight and during the day on Tuesday, I expect conditions to worsen Tuesday night and Wednesday. The low pressure system mentioned in the last forecast, is predicted to form a cutoff low and remain near California. However, a strong front and deep low pressure system is forecast to descend into your region from Alaska on Tuesday and Wednesday, which will cause high winds from the south and rain. On Tuesday winds will turn from coming from the north to coming from the west and finally from the south. However, the winds should not be as strong as today. Winds begin to increase Tuesday night and will be the strongest starting early Wednesday morning with winds from the south at 25 kts and gusts 35-40 kts through mid-day on Wednesday.
Stay safe!
