Frontal Passage

Over the next two days a cold front will pass over the rowers. Once again we will see the pattern of relatively strong winds first coming from the southeast that are weaker and from the NE after the front. The big things with this front seems to be the wind, clouds, and rain.

Current Conditions: Based on satellite imagery it appears that you are experiencing some low cumulus clouds that are moving towards the northwest and upper level clouds that are moving towards the east. These upper-level clouds are associated with a cold front that currently extends from the Yucatan Peninsula, through Cuba and Florida, and connects with a low pressure system off the coast of New England. Your data indicates that winds switched and are now coming from the east, southeast and have increased to approximately 10-12 kts. This seems to be consistent with nearby ASCAT overpasses.

Short-term Forecast (0-48 hrs): Based on the models the front should be right over you in about a day and be pass you at the end of this forecast. With this I expect winds will continue to increase and increasingly come from the SE over the next two days and then adruptly shift and come from the NE after the front passes. As the front approaches I expect the pressure to fall. Upper-level cloud cover to increase first and then thick low-level clouds will pass over. I also expect that you will experience rain and possible thunder as the front passes. RTOFS has very weak currents throughout this time. The models are suggesting that the waves will not get too intense, may 2-3m and be consistently from the E at 8-9 s.

Long-term Forecast (48-72 hrs): After the front passes through things should settle down. Models are suggesting that right at this time you will see the winds switch and come more from the NE and be consistently 5-10 kts. Also, the sky will rapidly clear and give you mostly sunny skies. After the front passes I waves will likely increase slightly and have a longer period at 10-11s.
