Favorable winds persist, but clouds remain in place

Favorable southerly winds persist but nearly 100% cloud coverage looks to continue over the next couple of days. In the longer term, a cold front threatens to bring continued clouds, northerly winds and possibly some precipitation on Tuesday.

0300 UTC 9 March 2013

Current Conditions: The southerly winds have calmed in the past few hours but will increase again soon. It appears we are not getting temperature information from the boat, but except temperatures in the lower to mid-70s. Clouds will remain in place over the next several days. Currents are calm. 2-3m waves out of the northwest with a 10s period.

Short-term Forecast: Expect southerly winds to hover around 10kts, dipping in the evening hours and increasing in the daytime hours. Temperatures will remain in the lower to mid-70s. Clouds are expected to mostly cover the region for the next 48 hours as a cold front associated with a mid-latitude cyclone entering the Atlantic slows to a crawl just northwest of the boat location. Currents are expected to remain calm. Waves are expected to increase to 3-4m over the next 24 hours and maintain that for the remainder of the forecast period.

Longer-term Forecast: Expect clouds to hang around through Tuesday. There is the possibility that some non-trivial precipitation will impact the region at some point on Tuesday as the cold moves through, especially further to the north. Future forecasters are urged to pay particularly close attention to the evolution of this cold front as winds are expected to transition to strong (15-18kts) easterlies as the cold front passes. Currents are expected to remain calm. Waves are expected to be 2-4m in the long term.
