Current conditions:
Boat observations show S winds at 5 kts. Satellite imagery shows a band of clouds over the boat now, ahead of a front to the NW. Reports from the boat say it’s been cloudy for a while. Nothing notable for currents. SWH is around 1.5 m. Not the worst weather for rowing!
Short term forecast:
There is a chance for a break in the clouds tomorrow, once this feature passes but before the front. The front should pass by before midday , and then the clouds will clear! Winds are already turning ahead of the front, and will stick between S and SW until it passes. Then, they’ll spend about 12 hours W to NW, far less than 10 kt, before returning to NE. Waves will build though Sunday to a peak of about 2m coming from the NW.
Long term forecast:
After the front passes, winds will briefly come from the NE but will be quite weak, and by Tuesday they’re back to weak southerlies ahead of the next front, which will hang to the north for most of next week, leaving the boat in weak winds. They’ll be near the subtropical high, so it should be clear but warm. Waves will calm again. No interesting currents on the horizon.
