Day - Few Clouds

A brief spell of trade winds

After a brief return to northeast trade winds, the winds will turn easterly and build under the influence of the subtropical high pressure. The clouds should dissipate and stay at bay for a bit.

Forecast for 0000 UTC 31 March 2013

Current Conditions: The storm has passed, and the winds will be coming around shortly. West of the frontal system is trade stratocumulus all the way to the Bahamas.

Short-term Forecast: The trades will build back in after this front. To your south, all the way through the Caribbean, ECMWF has them building to 18-23 kts, however you should only feel winds above 18 kts briefly in the coming days. The waves will be shifting with the passing of the storm system, and the the arrival of new waves from the strengthened trades. In terms of clouds, you will hopefully be close enough to the subtropical high (which will sit generally north of you) for it to be sunny and not cloudy, good for making power.

Longer-term Forecast: Winds stay between SE and E for a good long while, through Thursday. No more systems are expected before then. The models develop a bit of a precipitating system to your W, around 22 N, 87 W by Tuesday. It looks line NBD but we’ll keep an eye on it anyway. You should be shielded from clouds by the high pressure for a while, though maybe you’ll see some trade cumulus, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s energetic enough now that we’re heading into April for a squall here or there.
