Night - Rain

Forecast–Wednesday October 8

You probably noticed increasing clouds from the west around sunset. Unfortunately, these clouds are associated with some light rain showers that are currently located over central Iowa. These showers will likely move through overnight but any rainfall amounts should be a tenth of an inch or less. The good news is that the rain should be mostly over by sunrise and there is only a slight chance of a lingering shower tomorrow morning.

Short term forecast:
High pressure will dominate over the northern US for the next few days while a frontal system will move from the central plains through the Ohio Valley on Friday and Saturday. Right now, it looks like any rain from this system will stay to the south. However, there will likely be plenty of mid and high level clouds around on Friday. Winds will be light and from the north–turning northeasterly by Friday. Temperatures will drop to the 30s at night but should recover to the 50s during the day.

Long term forecast:
An active weather pattern is expected from Sunday through early next week as a trough moves through the central US. Sunday generally looks like it will be a pleasant day with winds turning southerly and slightly warmer temperatures. There is a chance of rain on Sunday but it doesn’t look like anything significant at this point. A low pressure system might bring rain on Sunday night into Monday–but it’s too early to say if this will be a direct hit or if it will miss to the south/east. Tuesday and beyond looks dry and warmer.
