Mild Conditions Persist

Conditions continue to be mild as winds, waves and currents are all relatively weak.

Current Conditions:
Satellite continues to look clear, which extends far west of the Cape Verde Islands and almost 30W. From the boat data, your winds look like they’re hovering just shy of 10 kts and ASCAT says it’s coming from the NE, same as yesterday. Surface pressure remains high and steady. You seem to have crossed over the strongest currents and at 8Z the speed will be less than 1 kt.

Long term forecast:
Temperatures will remain roughly constant in the high 60s to low 70s for the next few days. Winds look to continue to be from the NE at roughly 12-15 kts around the Cape Verde islands through midday on Saturday. Likewise, currents will remain relatively constant and should max out around 1-1.5 kts around the islands.

Farther out:
As Maroon mentioned yesterday, a large area of strong winds will develop around the Cape Verde Islands around 15Z on Saturday 2/1 and could reach excess of 23 kts by midday Sunday. Unfortunately, they will probably come from the NE, which won’t help you, but as we get closer we can look more closely at this.

Next 12 hrs, current position (06-18UTC):
Wind: ~9-12 knots from the NE
Pressure: 1016mb
Waves: 1-1.5 m in height
Current: 0.5-1.5 kt, stronger currents may be from N

18ish hr forecast at Intermediate position (~2/1/13 00UTC):
Wind: ~6-9 kts from the ENE
Pressure: ~1012-1014mb
Waves: 1-1.5 m in height
Current: Weak.

24 hr forecast to the west a degree-ish (~2/1/13 06UTC):
Wind: 9 knots from the NE,
Pressure: ~1016 mbĀ
Waves: 1-1.5 m in height
Current: Weak.
