Lake Union Park Launch

BE OUT THERE today with OAR Northwest and the National Wildlife Federation.  April 7, 11:00a.m. – 4:00pm.

1:00p.m. Join the ceremonial launch of OAR Northwest’s circumnavigation of Vancouver Island.  The ocean rowboat and expedition crew members will push off from Lake Union Park’s pebble beach and row across Lake Union and toward the Ballard Locks.

This is a free, family friendly event where “wild partner” organizations will introduce participants to the Pacific Northwest’s regional wonders, resources and opportunities for connecting kids and families with nature.

“Get to Know” scavenger hunt will lead participants to nature activities at partner booths, model boats on the boat pond, andmarine art on the deck of the historic schooner Lavengro.

Boating and sailing activities at The Center for Wooden Boats will make this fun for the whole family!

This event also serves as the launch of the Robert Bateman Get To Know Art Contest which seeks to engage children in getting outdoors and building meaningful personal connections with nature through the expressive arts. Categories for the contest include original works of art, writing, photography, videography and music inspired by nature and is open to youth up to age 19.
