The true explorer does his work not for any hopes of reward or honour, but because the thing he has set himself to do is part of his being, and must be accomplished for the sake of the accomplishment. (President Roosevelt on the presentation of the Hubbard Medal of the National Geographic Society to Robert Peary, 1906).
OAR Northwest ocean rowers will again row across the Atlantic Ocean in 2012. The team’s spirit of goal setting glows with the energy of explorers past and present. OAR Northwest seeks to create new possibilities.
More than a few people attending the organization’s December 16 event in Tacoma said the evening was inspiring. Certainly, the celebration was enjoyable, and OAR Northwest is grateful to all the support, sponsors and attendees. The reception highlighted OAR Northwest’s new direction, network of support, and plans for the 2012 expeditions.
Help us connect classrooms with the ocean rowing craft. Help us connect kids with an explorer’s spirit. Help us develop in students a love of inquiry.
