Right now I am going on a diet to kill some candida. I have mild to moderate candida symptoms (random stomach cramps, thrush on the tongue, smegma, occasional brain fog, mild depression) and would not otherwise go on the diet, because I feel fine. However, my wife Becca has been dealing with a host of health issues over the last 10 years. No answers. AARRRGGGHHH!! I thought that I would join in hear health war and be a soldier of support. The idea? Lets make this battle a team effort.
Its been a long journey. After a cross-section of medical practitioner consultations, I feel like we are starting to figure something out. We are taking the Hippocrates “Let food be thy medicine” approach.
No Sugar. No Booze. (Shed a tear for beer). No cheese. No refined flour. No unfermented dairy or soy. No coffee.
I am posting pictures on facebook of the foods I eat. Friend me (and OAR NW while you’re at it) and I will share them with you.
I have cut out candida-feeding foods for 12 days. Well almost. There was Easter dinner were I had scalloped potoatoes. And there was that 20 timbit binge at Tim Hortons (a famous Canadian donut chain). If you fall off, go waaayy off… But get back on.
I have just started a cleanse this morning with psyllium husks, barite clay and caprylic acid. I’ll let you know how it goes.
This also makes me think of the meal prep we are undertaking for the Ocean row. I would love to come up with the ultimate diet for adventure. This has got me thinking… I like the Cave Man style paleo-diet. Any suggestions out there? A Liberian refugee camp diet? That might ring home the higher purpose of this trip a little more…
