Michael,
We got everything sanded down a while ago. Larry provided us with good sanders. We were told to use just blue latex gloves and even no glove on the off hand in order to feel the shape and imperfections in the hull while we sanded. It seemed to work well in detecting spots and locations to go after, even when everything looked like it was sanded down appropriately.

I used padded gloves for a bit, and they did seem to help. I should probably attribute my numb hands to working more vigorously than I should have, instead of letting the sander and paper do the work. Lesson learned.

Cool pedal boats you have. I wouldn't mind taking a spin in one of these when we get back from around Vancouver in the late spring.

I always use thick or padded gloves when using an orbital sander. Even so, take breaks every hour or so and do something that flexes the hands and restores feeling/eliminates the tingling.

It certainly pays to get a decent sander, too. I find the Sears Pro model (roughly $70) works exceptionally well, even compared to some that cost 10X. It can be held lightly with one hand on the top and one hand on the vacuum hose connection so your hands don't have to absorb the vibration much at all.

Hi Jill -- I'll forward your question on to our Executive Director, Otto Loggers, as he is spearheading the boat program and has more information for you. Thanks for asking! Greg
